ある意味大きな潮流がスターバックスに押し寄せる。すでにアメリカサイトを見ている方はすでにご存じの方も多いかと。あのNespressoが出しているポーションコーヒーのようなシステムがアメリカスターバックスにこの11月から登場する。Nespressoは松屋銀座の地下で無料で試飲できることもあるので、是非行って見ることをオススメします。ただし、今後日本のスタバでこれを販売するかどうかは不明です.

あのお手軽感といい、洗練された機械がかっこいいんですよね。
今までのハンドドリップのスタイルをアナログとすると、このポーションタイプは間違いなくデジタルだね。とにかくパッケージをセットしてボタンを押すだけで同質のコーヒーが抽出できる。

以前スターバックスは熟練したバリスタが豆をグラインダーにかけて、チンバリーやマルゾッコなどのエスプレッソマシンで抽出してきた。そういう機械を有す店舗はどんどんなくなりつつあり、今ではオートマチックのエスプレッソマシンを置く店舗が増え、手動のエスプレッソマシンもどんどんオートマチックに変わってきた。現在の主流はマストレーナー。新規店舗でこのマシン以外を入れたところは今のところ見たことがない。山形・青森もすべてこれだった。オートマチックというからにはボタンを押せば、豆を自動でグラインダーにかけてエスプレッソを落とす。言い方は悪いけど、誰にでも操作できる。スキルなど求める余地がほとんどない。お金はかかるが、均質を求める方を優先した結果であろう。

つまりこの潮流は家庭にも落ちてくるわけだ。

機械にパッケージをセットしてボタン１つで美味しいコーヒーがかっこよく作れる。

でもまあ、おもしろみは全然ないね。スタバ太郎はアナログもデジタルも好きだけど、コーヒーの世界はアナログが好み。数が少なくなった手動エスプレッソマシンを有する店舗に行くと心がときめく。とにかくあの作るときの音が好きなのだ。時代とは逆行する思考回路がスタバ太郎なわけで。でもまあ、ボタン1つで抽出できるこの機械を否定しているわけではないです。

新しいマーケティングできっと成功すると思う。特に若いヤングファミリーにはうけるだろうね。値段も安くはない。VIA同等もしくはちょっと高いかも。専用マシンも必要だしVIAに比べるとお手軽感はない。ただ生活の中にカッコイイマシンで気軽にコーヒーをかっこよく抽出して飲みたいと思う人にはうってつけだろうね。

ちなみにスターバックスが選んだのはKeurig。コーヒーの世界ではかなり台頭してきたように思います。

スタバ太郎はここ数十年先を見ていて、地球気候変動は無視できないほどコーヒー栽培には脅威になりつつあって、へたするとコーヒー栽培自体ができなくなる地域も続出してしまい、ますますコーヒー豆は稀少価値が高くなってくると思うんだよね。スターバックスがコーヒーカンパニーの文字をロゴから外した背景はその辺も考慮せざるを得ないと読んでます。みなさんはどうお考えですか？コーヒーラインナップ以外の製品が今後、どんどん開発されてきて、ファミレスとはまた違った形態に変貌していくと見ています。人工コーヒーも今度出てくるのかもね。
